Over
the last few years, I’ve occasionally listened to old time radio shows on the
Internet, and they always take me happily back to my boyhood in the less worrisome
times of the 40’s and 50’s. As I listen to “The Challenge of the Yukon”,
starring Sergeant Preston and his loyal husky, King, I’m carried back to 1517 Holly
Drive, the pleasant house where we stretched out on the floor each night to
listen to our favorite shows. Hearing again the kindly voice of Mr. Keen,
tracer of lost persons, brings back warm memories of times when things seemed
less wearing – days when an unsophisticated fifteen-minute radio show left you
ready for another eight hours of easy sleep.
