WHEN THE SKY OPENS

When a rainstorm suddenly drops on us, we sometimes say “the sky opened”, and there are times in my life when something seems to fall open and powerful feelings and ideas drop down from somewhere. With no warning, I can be doused with feelings that seem to be from far away, or soaked in the most mysterious ideas. Sitting on the sofa beside a sleepy fire at home, swiftly a few feelings I’ve never felt before will fall around me, and I’m suddenly someone I don’t know, a new person with my name. Reading some lines from Shakespeare, ideas as shadowy as smoke will drift down and do for me what seeing mountains in the mist does for some. There’s a different sort of sky close by all of us, I guess, and sometimes it opens and shares its wisdom, the free feelings and ideas that silently reshape our days.
