Today he bought
a pair of sunglasses.
He didn’t purchase a house
in sunlit
nor did he sail across the sea,
nor create a sensation
with his poems and stories.
He simply purchased sunglasses
at CVS for seventeen dollars.
When he put them on,
he saw the loveliness of things.
Riding his bicycle
with these glasses,
the streets grew magnificent,
and the trees he passed
were the prettiest ever.
The praise more often
goes to seas that glisten
or the glamorous stars above us,
but, coasting down Spring Street,
he gave a shout
for his CVS sunglasses.
